Anxiety: Non-drug Approaches

Saturday, Nov. 3, at 10:30 A.M., Dr. Harlin will give a presentation on non-drug therapeutic approaches to anxiety.

A psychiatrist’s selection of a patient’s treatment plan is almost exclusively based on clinical judgment without incorporating objective assessments. But this is about to change.  Researchers have found that multiple pathways affect a person’s response to stress, not just the serotonergic pathway. There is growing evidence that knowledge of blood-based biomarkers, genetic mutations, and the gut microbiome improve diagnostic processes and treatment algorithms.

The talk will examine how the food we eat, the bacteria living in our gut, and our genes all interact to make us more or less susceptible to anxiety and depression.   Dr. Harlin will offer research-based strategies for coping and mitigating the effects of stress.

The talk will be held at The Harlin Center in Lakewood Ranch.  It is free and open to the public.
